WordPress is the world’s leading content management system by a huge margin. According to surveys conducted by W3Techs, WordPress powers 40% of all sites on the Internet. Its 64.3 % market share outpaces the combined efforts of rivals Shopify, Wix, Joomla, Drupal, and Squarespace by 47.6%.

As impressive as the stats may appear, WordPress’ popularity among self-hosted business websites has more to do with how easy it is to get a site setup, and the freedom it gives you to customize its look and feel without needless platform interference and restrictions.

Submitted for your perusal are 5 reasons you should consider using WordPress for your business website in 2023.

A Good Theme Gives Your Website a Professional Look

Think of a WordPress theme as software used to produce the user interface, design, and functions of a website. The WordPress software installed on the webhost server (think: computer) functions as the operating system, much like Windows does on a PC.

To see the Avada theme in action, look at the recent design I did for an electrical service company in upstate New York. After customizing the site according to the client’s preferences, the theme did most of the work making the site mobile responsive. The client is now happy to pass out her business cards to prospective customers, knowing her website is the first thing they’ll check out.

Your Business Website is the Desired Destination

No matter how active you are on social media or networking platforms such as LinkedIn, the whole purpose for the activities on those sites is to drive traffic back to your website.

Austin Realtor®, Tuesday Joiner is one of my favorite clients. Not only have I designed her website and marketing materials, but I also manage her social media content marketing. I used a WordPress plugin on her website to display her Instagram feed with a link to follow her. On Instagram her bio contains a link to her Linktree profile which directs interested prospects back to her website or to her LinkedIn profile.

Tuesday’s website is the heart of her real estate business.  Clients can sign up, download free information, or request a consultation via a contact form. The other platforms serve to funnel visitors back to the desired destination—tuesdayjoiner.com.

Customer Testimonials are Great Marketing Tools

All business owners, including myself, do all we can to promote ourselves. It’s why we’re in business. But does anything carry more weight and credibility than what paying customers say about you? It’s been said word-of-mouth advertising is the best there is. If that’s true, then your business website is the perfect place to publish customer testimonials.

Tri-City Driving Academy, a driving school client in New York State, uses customer reviews left on the company’s Google business page and publishes them on a revolving testimonial slider on their website’s home page. The Google business page also displays these reviews and provides directions and contact information for the business and its website.

Make Money While You Sleep

A business website gives you a 24-hour online presence.  If you own a retail outlet, you’ll want your customers to be able to order your services or products regardless of the time of day or night.

Pain Ink Productions sells its customized t-shirts and gear through its website store.  I used the Avada theme and WooCommerce to design their website. Customers place an order on the website and make payment. When the payment is accepted, an email is sent to a designated email address advising them an order has been received. The customer receives an email with the receipt for payment and is updated after the order is processed and shipped with all tracking information included.

I don’t know about you, but if I can start my day off with money added to my bank account, the rest of the day is likely to be easier to deal with.

Your Business Website is Your Brand Headquarters

No other element captures the essence of a business’ visual identity than its website. Think about: a website encompasses logos, typography, color, imagery, and tone expressed through written content.

BWSL Group is an upstart New York corporation specializing in global trade and infrastructure projects in developing countries. Its conservative design elements and color palette speak for the company and its client base. The minimalist website design I created aligns perfectly with the company’s way of doing business—results without fanfare.

Is A WordPress Website Right for Your Business?

There’s a reason WordPress drives so many business websites. The unfettered freedom to design and use a site as you please are inviting. Using one to promote your business is a wise investment. However, depending on how you plan to use it and administer its operation, it might not be the perfect solution for your business. WordPress websites involve spending money and time. Content doesn’t create itself and websites don’t maintain themselves. If you’re considering making the leap, do some research so you know what you’re getting into.
